Late in 1885, with his young wife Nesha and the first three of their eight children, Rabbi Dov Behr Manischewitz left Lithuania and made the steamship voyage across the Atlantic to settle in Cincinnati, Ohio. By 1888 he was a highly respected shochet for the Jewish Cincinnati community. He began baking Passover Matzo himself in his basement for family and friends and then for the whole community. As demand grew, he set up a factory and united the latest technology of the American industrial revolution with the matzo baking business. He made his own designs for ovens and other machinery. He replaced older coal stoves with gas-fired ovens. The finished product rolled onto conveyor belts and was packaged for shipment worldwide. His baking procedure was even patented. The old-fashioned, uneven rounds, made slowly by hand for centuries were replaced with today's square sheets churned out by machines. The new square shaped matzo Manischewitz developed made them easier to pack in boxes, and eliminated the need to waste the part that got cut off when baking round matzos. This new square shape became a unique signature of the Manischewitz brand at the time. Today The Manischewitz Company sells enough matzo annually, to reach from New York to Israel and back. Man-O-Manischewitz! Product of Israel.

Since 1925. Original 1925 family owned NY. The original cracker. Our Family Story: When Aron Streit came to America in the late 1800s, he had little more than a dream and the drive to make it in America - the land of opportunity. Streit's is the story of one man's dream, and one family's dedication to turning that dream into something far greater than anyone could have imagined. After nearly 100 years making matzo on Manhattan's Lower East Side, we have moved to a new and modern bakery in New York. Technology may have changed but our traditions and dedication to quality have not. We want to ensure that you, your children, your grandchildren, and your friends and neighbors will all be able to enjoy the same great-tasting matzo for centuries to come. Every box of Streit's is fresh, preservative-free, tasty, with lots of love and memories thrown in. It is still family run with the same exacting standards of quality lovingly imposed by Aron Streit, also known as the man behind the matzo. And now his dream can continue for generations to come. Baked under the supervision of Rabbi M. Soloveichik. No. 1944. The laws of Challah are fullfilled.
