In 1883, Don Melchor Concha y Toro planted his first viniferous vines, Cabernet Sauvignon, at the foot of the majestic Andes Mountains. 100 years later, the visionary Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle encouraged the development of a wine that would faithfully express its origin. And so arose, in 1987, the first vintage of Don Melchor from the century-old vineyard in Puente Alto, a terroir of exceptional conditions for growing the best Cabernet Sauvignon in the world. Don Melchor's style, complexity, and elegance is the result of the perfect balance between the story Puente Alto soil, the generous Maipo Alto Valley climate, the cold winds that blow down from the Andes, the years that the vines have taken to offer their best grapes, and the meticulous care and detailed work of the human hand. The 2018 wine is one of the greatest in the history of Don Melchor. The wine harvest developed under ideal conditions, with practically no precipitation, warm daytime temperatures and cold nights, producing a highly expressive wine with great personality and complexity Don Melchor 2018 bean the unique character of Puente Alto wines, marked by the influence of the Andes Mountains. It is composed of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot and 1% Peris Vendor.

In 2008, extensive spring frosts significantly reduced the size of Napa Valley's grape crop, greatly concentrating color, flavor and acidity in our Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. After blending (Cabernet Sauvignon [81%], Merlot [7%], Cab Franc [7%], Petit Verdot [4%] and Malbec [1%]) to optimize balance, depth and tannin structure, we aged the wine 20 months in French oak barrels, 42% new. The result is a classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon boasting fragrant blackberry, wild black cherry and loamy earth aromas; richly concentrated blackberry, plum and black cherry flavors; and a long, intense finish with sumptuous chocolate and berry tones. www.cakebred.com.
